One movie I am excited to see this fall is W. from Oliver Stone. I am interested to see Ollie's view on our president.
If you haven't seen the trailer, watch it now! Do it! You know you want to.
Knowing Stone's obvious dislike for the current Commander in Chief, I think that it took a lot of guts to make this movie. He knew he was going to get hellfire from Bush supporters about the movie being biased and slanderous and whatever other claims they have made. He knew there would be a lot of people that feel he's become a turncoat on his own beliefs for making something that wasn't slanderous.
But the thing is he did the best thing he could do when taking on something he's spoken out so harshly against.
He learned about the topic.
He saw from G. W.'s point of view for a while, finding out how he came to be who he is today. That allowed him to make a movie about Bush that is a satirical comedy without getting mean about it.
It's interesting that I am bringing this up, regarding the point of view, as this is one of the first things we learned in my Negotiation and Deal-Making class this month. It helps to negotiate when you can see from the other person's point of view (though I always do this anyways). Let me note here that seeing from another point of view does not mean you agree with that point of view.
Again: Seeing from someone else's point of view does not mean you agree with it.
It's like playing FPS games, I normally cannot stand the First Person point of view as its creepy in a totally unrelated way that I may try to explain another time (that and it can make me motion sick at times). So, if the options is there for me to pull back, even just a little to view my character, I am much happier.
Though having played in First Person, I can see why it is an advantage in a few way. Of course targeting is easier, but it is still a great way to pull a player into the game. No distraction of watching your character move about, you are the one moving about. I just can't always play like that.
So Oliver Stone has done something that takes a lot of someone, especially someone who has taken such strong positions on his subject. This may be Oliver's best movie yet due to this placement he put himself in. And I am not going to miss it this time.
I want to show that I believe in what he did to make the movie. Even if it is only one $7 -$9 theater ticket.
